Studio Controluce
Lighting that draws with shadow as much as light.
Why it’s a hidden gem
Controluce means "against the light." The studio builds lamps the way a photographer thinks about a window — the object matters less than the shadow it throws. Brass is hand-patinated; alabaster is sliced thin enough to glow.
They work to commission and to mood. A piece can take months because the makers wait for the right block of stone rather than the convenient one.
The moodboard for this whole project began, in part, with a photograph of one of their rooms at dusk.
